The sexy job in the next ten years will be statisticians… The ability to take data—to be able to understand it, to process it, to extract value from it, to visualize it, to communicate it

Unfortunately for those of us working on these problems in real life, it is not so simple. The archetypal data-renaissance man is mathematician, statistician, computer scientist, machine learner, and engineer all rolled into one. There are opportunities where you can lack some of these skills and work with a team that supplements your weak points—a startup is not one of those.

Now that we can store so much data, it is attractive to do previously unimaginable things with it. We are sure to see cool applications in fields from the internet to biotechnology to nanotechnology and fundamental materials science research. Almost all advances in every field of science and technology are now heavily dependent upon data and computing. Machine learning is serving a fantastic role as a bridge between mathematical and statistical models and the worlds of AI, computer science, and software engineering. We are exploring applications in learning from text, social networks, data from scientific experiments, and any other data sources we can get our hands on.

The data renaissance does present some difficult issues. There are not many places one can receive a good education on working on these problems at large scale. Scaling our modeling and optimization algorithms is hard. We need to figure out how to partition and parallelize, or sometimes trade speed and scale for approximately correct calculations. Another issue is that we are often using simplistic models, albeit with pretty good results in many cases. We would like to move toward a deeper approximation of real intelligence.

But the data renaissance is here. Be a part of it. Join Adogy Now

(Greek: a suffix: any branch of knowledge; any science or academic field that ends in -ology which is a variant of -ogy; one who speaks (in a certain manner); one who deals (with a certain topic); talk, speak)

The word -ology is a back-formation from the names of certain disciplines. The -ogy element basically means “the study of ____”. Such words are formed from Greek or Latin roots with the terminal -logy derived from the Greek suffix -λογια (-logia), speaking, from λεγειν (legein), “to speak”. The suffix -ology is considered to be misleading as the “o” is actually part of the word stem that receives the -logy ending; such as, bio + logy.

Through the years -ology and -ogy have come to mean, “study of” or “science of” and either of these suffixes often utilize the form of -ologist, “one who (whatever the preceding element refers to)”.

Definition:

Adogy – The science advertising, the study of advertising. The techniques and practices used to bring online products, services, opinions, or causes to public engagement and interaction.

History:

Weekly newspapers in London first carried advertisements in the 17th century; by the 18th century such advertising was flourishing. The first advertising agencies were established in the 19th century to broker for space in newspapers, and by the early 20th century agencies were producing the advertising message itself, including artwork. Most advertising promotes goods and services for sale, but similar methods are used in public service messages to promote causes, charities, or political candidates. Advertising is the most important source of income in many countries for the media through which it is conducted. In addition to newspapers, magazines, and broadcast media, advertising media include direct mail. Billboards, posters, transit advertising, and promotional items such as matchbooks or calendars. Advertisers attempt to choose media that are chosen by the advertisers’ target audience. In the late 19th century the “Internet” has cause online advertising to become a high value item. Customers purchase online more than ever before leading to an increase in Adogy.

Objectives:

To analyze your data and make best use of it possible. The science of advertising (aka. Adogy) is used to determine the best approach for you to make money with what you already have. Advertising is the most important source of income in many countries because it let’s you know what you are doing is working or not. The adogy is found in found in what you do with your data.

Forms of Advertising:

List Management: Management, monetization, targeting, profiling

Online Performance Advertising: Search, display, social, mobile

Direct Marketing: Direct mail, email marketing, telesales
